09 REG C30 2.0D D4204T engine judders and flickering lights
Hi Deltham,
Any luck with your problem? I've got a similar issue going on with my 2.0D C30 2009. Had the DMF and clutch replaced back during the summer as the DMF was said by the volvo dealer to be the most likely cause of the judder. When it was removed the DMF tolerances were measured and found to be out of range. However since the replacement it's not really improved at all. More recently the dealer has replaced ?engine mounting (??dampners) as they hoped this would solve the judder. Interestingly in my case the car judders when at low rev's irrespective of the engine being hot or cold (pressing down on the clutch or not has no effect on the juddering) It's quite frustrating now as when sitting stationary in traffic you can feel the juddering almost through the pedals and steering column. One other thing I've noted is that all of the electric components, dipped beam (and main beam) lights, the small cabin/passenger/driver compartment lights and the electronic screen on the radio all flicker in time with the juddering of the engine. Increasing engine revs does seem to get rid of the juddering (but perhaps it just drowns it out??) whereas the flickering of the electrics remains irrespective of the engine RPM. When turning the engine off all lights and the radio display go back to being rock solid illuminated. I had to have the alternator replaced back in January and now wonder if this was actually the start of the problems? any thoughts chaps? |

What hidden fault codes do you have ??? When was the cam belt service done (Might have jumped one tooth) and were the Aux belt tensioner and idler pulley replaced when the alternator was ??? Also see what happens when the AC is switched on & off, the alternator is loaded to max (All lights and rear screen on), the steering turned lock to lock when stationary to see if the pump is causing the Aux belt to slip and finally try pumping the brakes. Wild guess but if the tensioner and idler pulley were done when the alternator was changed, something is causing the belt to slip.

Hi Jawhat,
Unfortunately I've not got to the bottom of my problem. I've decided to ignore it and sell the car once it gets to 160k in about 12 months' time. I'd be interested to know if you find the problem with yours. I've previously had an electrical problem, the symptom of which was that the lights would dim and the radio would switch itself off when I drove around a tight corner! Turned out that was the power steering pump - replaced it and all was fine. |
