Default Is a V70 AWD a good buy?

Hi folks

(this is a duplicate thread, also at http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=151155)

I am getting a little tired of 940 motoring, after 8 happy years.

I regularly drive brand new hire cars for work, and the more expensive are starting to be better than my old 940. (Only the Merc and Galaxy, the rest are still C@@p).

There is a nice looking V70 AWD on ebay that is local. A 2002 model, Geartronic, 95000, pokey

Should I avoid it like the plague or join the 21st century with open arms?

Would I be wiser to go for something else - but what? E-class?

Thanks for your comments

YES

But do not expect miracle MpG figures.
If it brakes, it can be expensive.
Make sure AWD is working.

Just make DAMN SURE the AWD is working before parting with any money. Ideally get it checked by a stealer or indie, and ask them to specifically check for this.

Give us a link, there's a few too many to suss out which one you're looking at
This one? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-V70-...ht_1059wt_1396

That's the one.

I am not particularly keen, it's a lot of dosh for me, but its very much the spec I would like.

Any particular reason you're looking at one with AWD?
Unless you need or want it then it's just added weight and complexity, with big bills if it goes tits up.
Also why petrol? Diseasal is better suited to these things, and they do shift just as well while getting better fuel consumption....

With that car I think it's going for a bit of a premium because of the AWD. A similar age and spec XC70 is a bit cheaper and gives you the advantage of better ground clearance.......

Same caveat regarding the AWD system applies though

BTW, 2003 and on cars are better, the AWD system is improved and is more reliable.

Thats a high price for the year/miles. mk2 has mechanical fwd which can and does go wrong, £1500.00 to fix (if think) mk1's (up to 2000) have a viscous system (like the one's used by Landrover) which works better, can still go wrong but not as often.

I think the reason I hanker after AWD is that the RWD cars I have been driving for the last 16 years are crap in the snow. Although I live in a warm part of England poor weather still stops us dead. I also like a bit of poke, so 200bhp is fun, if very expensive nowadays and AWD usually puts the power down better.

I am interested in an XC70 because I find it the easiest car to get in with a bad back. "normal" cars are too low, XC90s are like climbing into a truck, and still very expensive.

Here is an even cheaper one:

Transformed my very skittish 760 in the snow this year with winter Michelins, the difference is unbelievable, a lot cheaper than buying another motor plus you still get to keep rwd!
