Default V70 Engine service light

I am intermittently getting two messages; "time for regular service" & "engine service required" and whilst these messages are showing I am unable to use Cruse control. Car is driving fine getting the same great MPG as usual.
Took the car to an independent garage where I have been going for years with the car and they can not locate a problem, no issues were found when they hooked it up to diagnostic software and fuel pressure was OK. They reset the messages but they have returned, appearing more frequently that a few weeks ago. When the messages are not showing Cruse works fine.
They advise I continue to use the car as usual but return with it if I detect any change in the car.

Any suggestion as to what this could be?? Cant really afford to take it to a Volvo dealer.

engine service required.
could be the throtle postion sensor but you need to have the volvo codes done at the volvo garage or indi. there will be a fault logged if you have that message showing.
