Red face C30 1.6 idle/rev issue

Hi guys, can anyone help - my c30 has developed an intermittent problem, how it began:
On starting the car out of gear the revs would begin to climb, they would die down if I depressed the clutch, and come back again on release. a quick switch off and on would normally fix the problem for a while.

Now it's started doing it while driving, 'engine performance reduced' warning comes up and there seems to be some conflict when accelerating engine breaking and again the revs take off on their own adventure... Again, a quick reset/restart and all is well..

She's got 99,999 miles on the clock but on the whole has been good to me if this makes any difference!

My initial thought turns to the throttle body which may need a clean.

Is this a petrol or diesel?

I have had that suggested, would brake cleaner work for this? I think I'll give it a try in the morning

It's a diesel and for t hr last few months has been used for short journeys of 5 minutes each morning and night when it used to spend its time on the motorway - I had the dpf replaced about 2k ago

Yes brake cleaner would work, just try keeping it away from any electricals. Carb cleaner would do the job too.

A further thing you may want to look at cleaning at some point too would be the EGR valve.

Well I've finally got round to removing the throttle body for cleaning and the damn thing won't budge!

Does anyone know of any useful guides for the process? I must be missing a bolt somewhere along the line but I can't see where!

Edit: found the bolt, my own stupidity! Cleaned but no joy.. Looks like an expensive trip to the dealership!

Update on the situation in case anyone is interested/ has similar issue... I bit the bullet (sort of) and took it to a local non dealer garage for a diagnostic, the outcome is a fault code which they say could mean one of the following:

Accelerator position sensor
Throttle body
Software update

I know which one I'm hoping for! But it will sadly have to go to the main dealer for them to pinpoint the fault rather than guessing with some potentially expensive parts. £80 diagnostic fee here we come!

With the above 3 in mind does this ring any more bells with anyone? Two of them make sense to me but I'm really hoping its just a case of updating the software

I would probably narrow it down to being either the TPS or the TB, given age and mileage then the TB would be more the suspect for me.

Did you get the codes off the garage? If so what were the actual codes?
