LTEcactus, save your money and put up with the idle rattle. Absolutely no benefit.
Fitted 2 lower engine mounting supports, no engine back lash when accelerating or jerky changing gear.

Of all the things I happen to spot on marketplace, my old rays alloys from the orange car, if I can knock him down to the £100 sort of ballpark I'll be having this back for certain, as soon as I sold the car I wished id have put the old set of momo's on it and kept these ones.

Put new disks and pads on the front, bled the fluid and cleaned up the rear calipers and lubed the pads and handbrake cables. Oiled all the hinges and locks, fitted the last of the removed trim and then deep cleaned and polished the whole car.
Been out for a test drive and it runs very sweetly. Brakes need bedding in and I need to double check the tracking once everything has settled.

Originally had planned to renew the front discs and pads today on the V40 so I headed in to work a couple of hours early to do them before my shift. Unfortunately on the way there my auxiliary belt snapped so I ended up replacing that instead...
Didn't particularly enjoy doing it as it's not an easy belt to get to, although I did move the ECU out of the way as suggested by Gatos and it does improve access considerably. May do a guide as I took some pictures on the way. As you can see the old one was well past it's best and was brittle and cracked. New belt also shown running with the ECU still tucked out of the way.

Not today but yesterday evening, first off i replaced the thermostat, it had 2002 on it and was a Volvo one so I assume it was the original, a simple job right? Wrong.
The new one was the same, apart from it had a round slotted o ring that was about 6mm tall, whereas the original had a flat / square sided one (also slotted) which was under 3mm high, never going to work, so I carefully removed the one from the old stat, which fell into three pieces, no other options available to me though so I stuck a thin bead of red instant gasket around the outside of the stat, pushed the o ring back into position, put a bead round the top and bottom of the housing and did everything up, amazingly no leaks. Then into sorting the front brakes, as I've had a steadily increasing wobble / vibration through the steering wheel under braking, euro car parts buggered me about with the green stuff pads I should have been getting (they cancelled the order on me twice) so I went to the local place and got the better quality TRW pads (as opposed to the cheap ones) which are allegedly OEM spec, paired up with the NOS volvo disks I managed to get off eBay, the wobble has gone but braking performance os awful, I hate the fact that they never have much bite until bedded in. The most annoying thing is that I may well not have needed to change everything though, as despite everything being in rude health when I changed the disks for the cheap ones in April, somehow the passenger side bottom slider pin had seized solid in that time, precision tapping, side to side twisty twisty and wd40 worked and it eventually came out, dusted it over with 1500 wet and dry and some new high temp grease, all good, oh, I also rung off the heads on both 12mm bolts securing the caliper on the drivers side, they weren't great before, so had to resort to hammering a 7/16 Imperial socket onto them, luckily i hadn't gone mental doing them up before so it wasn't too bad, plus handily the premium pads come with 2 new caliper bolts, ideal.

Thank god for instant gasket, as I don't think it would have sealed without it, although this is the pitfall of pattern parts at times, it would never have sealed in a million years if I'd have used the one it came with.

MOT yesterday. Passed with no advisories which shd has done since I have owned her. Surprising though how sweet cars always run with a new ticket.

All sorts. Fitted new dashboard LED's, sorted out the front springs (mounted upside down and rubbing on the body, whoops...), timing belt, auxiliary belt, full coolant change, and a nice front lip spoiler. Now all I need is a set of Arcadias and it'll be complete... Well maybe a Volvo strut brace too heh

Do you ever anticipate the demise of your vehicle?
The gearbox is getting noisier.....well...the final drive part. Ive tracked another (J5C? Renault) gearbox for 250€. I'll hold off for a bit. Earlier in the year it developed a misfire that got gradually worse. Turned out to be a cracked plug on no.2 cylinder. Only trouble was, when I removed the plug a bit of the ceramic fell into the bore!! Couldn't get it out so, start up and see what happens. Click click and that was it! Well, i thought it was....after my trip to the UK the potential damage is coming home to roost.....on long engine over runs it now blows some blue smoke and burning a bit of oil. With the annual test due in March it will be submit it and see. The exhaust will need attention (AGAIN), tyres are getting down a bit (5mm) and like Clarkey, brake shudder under load or hard braking. I've the green pads in on new vented and drilled discs that will need a skim and new "will fit" pads. I was hoping for another 2 years out of it......we'll see.
