Green Flag said it was definitely the clutch

It had been really slow in 1st 2nd gear and I had it booked in for a diagnostic at Halfords.

It then went whilst I was on a very small narrow country lane. Thank heavens for a farmer on his way home, towing me to a shop carp park to wait for the GF

You can change gear with no clutch. and nothing happens except big revs when you press the accelerator in gear

Unfortunately I have no way of getting it there, but I really appreciate the offer!

Well it's not the injectors. I went for a drive last night and the clutch went.

Green Flag took it to the garage (Halfords) and before doing a property diagnostic, which they will do on Monday, they have quoted 850

I've learned a very expensive lesson

Don't buy a car because you like it
Don't buy a car from Facebook market
Don't trust a guy who will meet you when you cannot find the address he gave you
Don't hand over £800 without checking book prices and without having a mechanic look at it

I've had the car one week!

I've spent the same in a sick dog this week and she will be going back on for another £350 scan this week so I'm not in the mood for people telling me how stupid I am. I KNOW how stupid I am.

I don't know whether to raise the cash for the car, or just write it off as a horrible lesson.

It's a nice car. Perfect for my dogs. But I'm so miserable right now I can't make good decisions.

Yes, I contacted the seller. As you would expect he basically told me to f off
Sorry to hear you've had such a bad time with this car, and with what appears to be the conman who sold it to you. ( there's the whole key thing and now this) it's a shame that I don't think there's much you can do in a private sale, to resolve this fairly. Hopefully you can get something back for the car and your dogs turn out to be OK.

How can you change gear if the clutch is Kaput, surely there would be a big clunk, grating noise, you are talking about a manual gearbox ?

If the clutch is not transferring the power from the engine to the gearbox it would be possible to have the engine running and go through the gears without anything happening.

Because it was intially slipping in first and second gear and lost drive, hence no resistance at all. I would have thought this would have been noticed when the car was being bought, it would have at least be slipping in 5th.

Anyway, its a clutch, not the end of the world. Never go back near the plank who said it needed an injector, unless he speaka small england and thinks the clutch is called an injector as his quote wouldn't be far away!
