2016 XC60 - groaning electric tailgate

(Not 2016 - and not my car! - but I cannot change the title to correct the mistake. It is a 2013 car)

XC60 with both electric tailgate struts groaning like hell on the way up and down and frequently sticking completely in the process.

From listening to the noise I would say that the struts are screw jacks that are now devoid of lubrication rather than hydraulic or pneumatic struts running out of pressure.

If they are indeed screw jacks, how to disassemble and lubricate them, please? It would be an expensive waste to bin them.

Hi Did you get any further with this as I have the same problem. Mine also sinks a good bit when fully opened. Keep banging head which is a pain.
