With ignition switched off, hold down the odometer reset button and turn the ignition to position 2 - keep holding down the odometer button for about 10 seconds until the service light starts flashing - done!

I've just done this on my my2000 diesel. It took four or five attempts before the light stayed off, but it worked in the end.

I've heard that resetting the service light that way work only on Phase 2 cars. Is it true?

Edit: Tried it on my Phase 1 V40, didn't work.

I believe that's correct. My understanding is that you need VIDA to reset Ph1 cars

It's worked perfectly on all my X40's, but then they've all been phase 2...

Ive just pulled the bulb out of my p1, I do my own servicing anyway so a light for it is irrelevant lol.

I might end up doing the same since I also service my car myself.

But the light goes off after a few minutes. It's just a reminder.
