1959 544 brake master hardware
Howdy all from America,
As I replaced the brake switch I found I need to bleed the system. It seems there is a washer between the branch union on the front of the master an the most forward nut the switch screws into. The green manual doesn’t show this. Does anyone know if this is needed or why I might have one? Thanks Mark Flagstaff, AZ |

As JC has already mentioned, when things get screwed into "wet" systems...like Oil Sump Plug, Brake Light Switch, Hydr Clutch Line, etc., if not a (self-sealing) type pipe thread, or they don't have a specific sealing surface (like the internal conical surface of Bleeding Nipples) they will typically have a copper washer to form a good seal (the soft copper displaces as the item is tightened, assuring a positive seal). I hope you have good long-term function with that new Brake Light Switch...I've found them (even brand new ones!) much less than satisfactory, and so developed upgrade kits to address this weakness...see: http://www.sw-em.com/safety_bulletin_1.htm Cheers |
