Default Improved mpg!

Hi all,
So I'm now the proud owner of a 1995 960 24v estate, and I love it but it was proving to be a bit of a beast to run returning 14mpg local and about 20 mpg on a run, so I sorted the problems I could find with blowing exhaust and loose plugs and got it back to what seemed to be the norm (around the 20-27mpg mark)
Anyway I added some oil additive yesterday that I've used before but with slightly less of a noticeable improvement and the car is running amazingly, it's quieter than a Prius and last night I got over 30mpg mixed mileage (about 70/30 motorway/town) just been for a little drive to take the dog for a walk and on the way home got 35mpg but dropped back to 31mpg as I live on top of a hill.
Not sure on the forum rules on advertising and brand names, Im sure someone can tell me if I can mention the name.
I'm not a sales rep or something but if it makes these cars just a bit more usable with fuel cost the way they are it must be a good thing.
Cheers,
Paul.

I would be very careful , it seems a lot of friction has been reduced . You may not have anything better than petrol in the sump for lubrication !
Go for 0w/30 oil by all means ,it will reduce friction .. but your present cocktail may well wreck your engine .. Volvo have always forbidden additives of any kind .

Thanks for the heads up, if lubrication or oil pressure was getting low do you think it would start to clatter?
This stuff is marketed as not an actual oil treatment but a metal treatment not changing the characteristics of the oil etc.
I guess all I can do is keep an eye on it and if it starts to sound like a bag of spanners I'll flush it and start again.
I'll post my findings anyway and hopefully not be asking for advice on the rebuild 🙄
Cheers,

Paul.

Just done my first proper run of 127 miles round trip.
I got 30.46mpg fully loaded with 4 passengers and luggage and a fair bit of traffic on the M25, on the way back with just me no luggage and light traffic I got 37.0 mpg cruising between 55 and 70 mph.
Still smooth and very quiet and so far nothing has fallen off...fingers crossed 🤣

I did the same trip about a month ago and used about 2 gallons more fuel.

On a side note..

Nothing beats lubrication of old, Russian, Dniepr motorcycles..

In the early production they didn't use bearings at all. Just pigs skin/fat.
And surprisingly, these motors tended to outlive the later, bearing equipped ones

I'll give anything a try!
Maybe I'll chuck some lard in and some pork scratchings...hungry now 🙄
I've just bought another bottle of the mysterious snake oil and I'm going to give it a whirl in my taxi, which should be a fairly good test, it's a diesel Skoda with 290k on the clock that already gives good fuel mileage.
Will I be looking on autotrader in the morning for a new cab or spending the fuel profit on hobnobs ?

That is mpg I would expect of the car to be fair. I.alwaus find big, powerful cars are comparatively frugal on the open road, it's town that kills them

Just looked on www.fuelly.com and most owners are reporting low 20s in a 960 best I read on a motorway run was 27mpg which is what i was getting.
But this is a new beast to me and I haven't a clue.

Don’t run flushing oil through old engines either, sometimes a little coke in the right places is your friend. Keep your engine monitored for now and see how it goes.
