Hi,

Get the Nivomat part number and see if PFS or such can get them.

Or try a pot of jelly and firm stick...

I'll get under it and see if the part number is visible. Not today though - pouring down and gale force winds in Swansea.

I've never heard about anything but one type of Nivomat for each model of car. I don't think the police version have special ones.

However, quite a lot of parts are changed in the rear axis assembly when you select Nivomat levelling. For some year models, the normal ones will simply not fit, if your car is equipped with Nivomat to begin with.
But in general, a car with Nivomat has softer suspension, so getting rid of the Nivomat will cause it to hang down in the rear. The Nivomat is supposed to carry some weight, even when the car is unloaded. Unlike a normal shock absorber, which carries no load at all. Not even those in the 4C system.

Hi,

Some models, if there is an option for a lowered suspension, will have standard and shorter Nivomats, depending on which setup/option has been fitted.

That's true. I remember when I bought my 854 in 1993, that Nivomat couldn't be combined with lowered suspension. But a year later you could, since by then a shorter Nivomat unit was developed.

I'm in no immediate rush to change this shocker as it doesn't seem to be affecting the ride. The suspension I wouldn't call soft but there is a rattle from the rear and I don't know what it is. Could be loose exhaust, something metal in boot well, or it could be the shocker. The shocker can only get worse! I'm on the lookout for a replacement but £150 + VAT for a used one is a bit steep.

Hi,

The Sachs Nivomat is good for 10 years/100k miles. If a 2nd Hand one is being looked at, make sure you know the age and mileage of the shock and that it is in good condition - not leaking oil.
