It all depends on the dealer. I have absolutely no complaints about the 2 branches of the same dealership that I use.

OK they're an hour & a half away from me but it's time well spent.

Naah.. I drive p2 v70.. Compared to that, almost any boot is cramped. Very very few exceptions, and as for now- no new Volvo comes close. Seems like p3 v70 was the last one. V90 had a chance, but they've messed up tailgate.

Yep in fact was in York yesterday morning getting my rear offside window & On-Call fixed.

arrived 08:30 2 cups of very nice coffee & car all resolved by 09:30. The window was having a comms issue with the control unit, The On-call needed a dealer code to enable it again.

Also saw a very nice X60 D5 AWD RDesign in White with Polestar sat on the forecourt. other than mine it's the only other polestar XC60 I've seen.

The window was having a comms issue with the control unit,

See thats my problem with modern cars too over complicated why does the window need to communicate with a coms unit when all they do is open and close on a switch?

My 1977 264 had electric windows that went up and down fine without all the extra complicated electronic crap.

Probably a subject for another thread.

Indeed, I bet its due to the Volvo on call app so you can check if your windows are open, doors locked etc remotely.

That is easy to explain .

Cost cutting , a huge saving on old fashioned thick copper wire , most of the wiring is very thin as all it has to do it transmit instructions . Back in 1998 when volvo introduced networks they said the wiring saving was around 30 kg if I remember right .
There is much much less wiring in the car even allowing for all the small control modules dotted around the car .
The instrument panel on a 960 had about 60 thick wires going into it , the new XC90 … about 4 or 5 very thin ones . ( even the first network S80 had only 4 wires going into the instrument panel .)

Because of all this the system is actually easier to fault trace using the built in diagnostic functions , assuming the plugs and sockets are reliable , which they sometimes are not !
The car will even test it's own battery and say pass or fail .,

functions , It enables the car to have so many functions , Volvo can make something do a task in a different way by just altering the program , no need to touch a spanner . The factory can fix a fault on every car just by altering an instruction slightly .

To go back to the topic - almost - I saw my first XC40 yesterday, I thought it was a new model XC60 so I was quite surprised to see the 40 0n the rear door.

I suspect that the XC40 will eat into the XC60 market and so cause a drop in revenue for Volvo UK, hence they will try to encourage XC60 customers to stay with the XC60 by not letting them have the XC40 very easily.

You could be right. I'd be asking myself if I needed the slight extra size of the XC60 over the XC40. Probably yes with Mrs D's luggage and grandchildren to consider, but otherwise ...
