Default C70 Boot rails

Hi all

I have searched on this but to no avail, so sorry if I have missed the answer buried somewhere in here. I have acquired a set of the genuine C70 boot rails, which include a high level brake light because they obscure the one fitted on the car.

There is a short wire to a grey plug which obviously folds underneath the boot lid, but I have no idea what I am then trying to attach that to. It should activate the light on the rack and deactivate the one on the car.

Volvo accessory instructions don't cover it - at least, not any more - and the seller never used the rails so has no idea.

Has anyone on here got/had these rails who can tell me how to connect this up? I have had the inside lining off of the boot-lid but nothing seems to lurk there. Was there a further wire or something? The Volvo accessories guide, which does still show the rails, does not suggest so...

Help?

David

Possibly unplug the existing high level light somewhere near the light unit, to plug in the new one?

I never came across these when I had my C70, keen to see what it looks like fitted!

I was going to say...if the plug from the boot rails has a "female" type connector then Warninglight is probably right and you need to take the power feed from the existing light.

To fit it properly you need to drill through the boot in to the tonneau and then feedcthe cable through, unplug the third brake light and connect the new plug to the loom.

I cut the cable and fed it through the existing grommet, behind the carpet on the tonneau.
Complete tw@t of a job, but persevered.
The one I purchased from eBay had a different plug than my third brake light so I spliced in to the loom and use both.
Use bullet connectors tucked behind the boot carpet so if I want to remove/replace in future it's just plug and play.

Thanks everyone.

The connector is different on mine too so I'll do a splicing job as suggested...that sounds simplest to me!

Thanks everyone for your help with this.

In the end I spliced in a new wire to the wiring to the existing high level brake light, ran it through to a connector and changed the existing connector on the boot rack. I gather Volvo's original idea was that connecting the boot rack in meant disabling the existing light, but doing it this way means that both illuminate which I figure can't hurt...

Useful piece of kit - and doesn't generate any extra noise like the roof bars do when fitted to my V60, so that's an added bonus!

Warninglight - you wanted to know what it looked like, so happy to oblige - photos from recent Scotland trip attached.
