Default 16T Turbo

Best place to source one? New or VERY,very good second hand. I think mines toast - whiney noise from cold, smoke on hot idle/gentle acceleration. Car has 157k on clock.

Plenty 2nd hand bits on Ebay.
New turbos, most of the motor factors, BTN are a well known company regarding turbos.
On todays scale of turbo prices a new one for these cars is very cheap, sure I've seen them in 250-300 bracket.

Just get a CHRA off eBay for £100 and swap it with existing. They use the same bearing style as the genuine mitsubishi TD04 units and work fine. Used them before, the few i have used are both still boosting fine without issue, ones got 15k on it (18t) and ones got 43k on it (16t). The 16t is doing 1 bar constantly too, which is a little above stock boost levels.

All this sh1te about all turbos from China being crap, is crap. Yes, some are gash (copies of new intricate tech packed items) but the ones of older turbos are actually not too bad. The GT30 copies for £130 are a good example, decent machining quality, big enough wastegate opening to prevent surge, will do 1 bar all day without breaking a sweat, just theyre based on a turbo from the 80s, so money for old rope hence cheap.

Kinda the same boat for the TD04s: old turbo design, almost nobody whos running one is really willing to pay for an Genuine Mitsubishi or Owens version due to vehicle value.

Heres a TD04 16T CHRA for £100

Just my opinion
