Default 940 saloon on ebay

Nothing to do with me.

"Price is based on the cost of the engine and gearbox"

Since when has a 2.0 turbo engine and a m46 presumably been worth over a grand?

Perhaps the vendor priced up the individual components of a B200, totalled them and did the same again for the M46? In which case it's a L'Oreal car (worth it)...

Non Volvo enthusiast finds 30yo car in good running order, thinks oohh rare gold mine! Checks ebay and finds Denmark company selling redblock engine or gearbox for £500 +£800. Rubs hands and gets on eBay right away!

Or stolen .. no keys or v5

As a car, it needs a rear quarterlight and a drivers door that i can see, a lock set and front valance fixing from what he says and a new timing belt because it's been sat.

The MoT ran out in December 2017 so has almost certainly been sat since at least then, if not earlier.

I think someone is slipping something into his pork pies!

Almost certainly stolen (1/4 Light and locks), but subsequently recovered, and now offered for sale for spares / repairs by a reputable salvage business (address and landline).

The price is however a matter of opinion. As we have said many times in threads such as this, any car is worth however much or little someone is prepared to pay for it. If this one doesn't sell at the asking price and hangs around like a bad smell, I would expect it to be reoffered at a more modest figure. I don't think that there is anything more sinister about it than that.

Regards, John.

Regardless of the legal status of it John, you can pick up a good "rolling restoration" with MoT in better overall condition for less than this is being offered for.

The way the listing read about being offered for the price of the engine and gearbox including all ancilliaries suggests the shell is probably rotten and they've glossed over it.

I'd hazard a guess it was removed legally without keys by the company that has it now, the previous owner either moved and left it behind or possibly passed on and has no next of kin.

There seems to be a lot of sales to be wary of nowadays, must be the "fast buck brigade".!!
It's come to my notice that a nice looking maroon 940 came up at auction last week P633 MKJ at Hobbs Parker Car Auctions with a tag of £500-£800.

Rang em' up but the women was not very obliging and said "Prices of sale would be printed next week Goodbye"

Notice it's for sale on Gumtree £2,650 with MOT advisories including corrosion underneath...........................really?...... . of course you do realise that all us Volvo enthusiast chaps were born in a Banana Tree.

It does seem to be that peoples asking prices for 240/740 and 940 have gone up in the last year. Some rough looking cars at well over the odds.

The 240 seems to have a following but does a 940?

My 1996 B230FK Auto 940 cost me £250 4 years ago and I cant really see it being worth more than around £500- £600 with a full MOT. It's done 200k and works great but body paint not perfect.

For me it's my works van and suits me great and hope to have a long time.

Are the RWD Volvo values increasing? What are rough examples worth?

James

I think the 'following' now extends beyond '9' series cars to include 850s and early V70s, James. Whether or not that is reflected in increased prices only time will tell, but I would expect that neither you nor I would lose a great deal were we to decide to sell our cars.

I believe it is simply because they have now reached the bottom of their depreciation curve, which, coupled with those qualities that the cognoscenti know and appreciate, makes them such great value. If the secret becomes more widely known, it could work as much to our disadvantage as to our benefit in the longer term.

These were simpler, more robust cars than their more modern equivalents; I seriously doubt that a 2020 Volvo will represent such good value in 2040 as a well bought Phase 1 V70 does today.

Regards, John.
