C70 Roof ECU location
Anyone know the location of the roof control / ECU on a 2003 C70 ragtop. Garage have finally tracked down the cause of the non functioning roof and told that they tried another control unit and roof worked fine. They quoted me £1200 for new ECU, advised me to find a part cheaper and they would fit it for me. Got the part now want to fit myself, simple job of 4 plugs and 2 screws, just need to know where in the car it goes.
Cheers Darren

In the boot area
In the boot area, I think behind one of the side panels. I also think you will need it programmed to the car and syncronised with the roof?
I am sure someone els may confirm this. |

hoping that it will just be a case of fitting the unit and pressing the roof button, otherwise it will be off to the garage again so they can charge another 50 quid for an hours labour that last 15 mins lol

Help
If you need further help I can try and email you the notes from a Vadis workshop book. I note we are almost neighbours!

making progress
Found it!, its drivers side next to the rear light cluster. Dead easy to fit however now it needs to be synchronised. Roof only opened half way and then had to close it manually. Looks like it will have to go Volvo now anyway.

If you keep trying it it may adapt eventually.

Had thought about it, but am a bit worried that continued failures may blow the unit (the last one just failed with no warning). Managed to get this one off ebay for £65 and dont relish the prospect of having to find another. Cheapest 2nd hand unit from a parts supplier was £175 and only managed to find 2 for sale. My local independant specialist is very fare so I'll let him take the strain. He breaks it he fixes it lol.

C70 Roof module
Hi,
I have just read about the fun you’ve been having with your roof. I have a 2004 C70 convertible with window problems which I hope can be resolved by changing the roof module. Like you, I have acquired a replacement from Ebay but don’t know where it’s located. I was warned to take care because of hydraulics etc, You mentioned it’s on the driver’s side near the rear light cluster. Does all the trim come away easily? Also, how did the electronic re-programming turn out? Cheers, Ray |

First, the first gen C70 Cabrio roof has five motors and two for the storage lid, that's seven motors in total.
The convertible top will not open or close if the boot lid is open. So if the signal from the boot lock module is telling the roof control module that the lock in not in the closed position, the roof will not operate. The C70 is delivered with two remote control fobs and two types of keys: Master keys (2) have black edged light grey rubberised grip. Service key (1) has black rubberised grip Boot lid unlocking from outside with the Remote control fob pressing button twice within 3 seconds. Master Keys operate the ignition, opens drivers door lock, the glove compartment lock, and the boot lid lock. The Service key only operates the ignition and the drivers door lock. Private locking of the boot lid: By turning the master key anti-clockwise from the vertical to horizontal in the boot lid. The lock will enter the private locked position. When in this position, the boot lid cannot be opened by a service key, by the remote control fob, or by the opening switch in the driver's door. Resetting the boot lid from the private position can only be done with the master key. Turn the key from the horizontal through 180 degrees and then back to vertical. |
