Default remote key fob - 1997 S70

My new car didn't come with a remote key fob, so I'm looking for one in good condition. I believe it should be this type -

(unless anyone with a 1997 S/V/C70 says otherwise!

Thanks

Can a secondhand one be reprogrammed to your car?

I'm assuming so - I know I did it on a previous Volvo, but I can't remember which model. It was simply switch ignition to II then plip the buttons to register the key. I'm hoping I can do the same with the S70 !!!

I've seen them for sale on EBay from breakers but assumed buyers just wanted to change over to a better condition outer casing. Every days a school day!

You cannot. Need the module that came with the key or new key from dealer

When the two key fobs that came with Mrs Jack's S70 fell to pieces I replaced them with a Hawk remote central locking system. This involved splicing control box into the car's central locking system, but it wasn't very difficult - less than two hours work.

If I remember rightly, there was an option to include a boot-opening function, but this would have required an additional actuator, so we didn't bother.

The Hawk system came with two really top quality fobs that function in the same way as the Volvo originals. They've stood up to the rigours of life extraordinarily well, and the system still functions perfectly, easily 8 or 9 years on.

From memory the Hawk kit was around £35. The suppliers were really helpful and sent me a model-specific wiring diagram.

Thanks CaptJack, that sounds like a good product.

I'll get a price for the fob/programming just for amusement, but may have to go down that route!

Afraid not. Is that what is required to program a new remote to the car?
