Default Gearbox specialist recommendation – Hampshire

Some details: I have a 2014 xc70 D5 Auto which we have owned for 1 year. The car has around 56,500 miles on the clock now with full-service history. As recommended by my Volvo specialist (who I trust), the oil was changed around 1,000 miles ago. The Volvo seems to be a well-documented issue of ‘slamming’ or ‘banging’ into drive when warm around 1 in 5 times D is selected. This never happens when cold or selecting R. Behind the desk research on this excellent forum seems to show that this might be related to a dirty solenoid sticking.

I would therefore like to have a gearbox specialist take a look however, I don’t know of any in my area of Hampshire other than using google. Could anyone make any recommendations please?

Speak to Horton Cars (Graham) a little further North in Oxfordshire, I suggest.

Thanks for the suggestion on Horton Cars. I have heard of the garage before but ideally would like to find somewhere closer to Fleet it at all possible.

I used The Gerarbox Specialists, Shelley Road, Bournemouth,

https://www.gearboxspecialistsbournemouth.co.uk/

I had problems with a ZF 4HP20 in a Peugeot 406 V6 Coupe. They were very knowledgeable and solved the problem which turned out to be a failed selector position rotary switch sensor. But they did seem to know all the foibles of that particular high spec German box.

You could try BK Transmissions in Overton, only 30-35 minutes from Fleet. They did a good job on a Galant we had many years ago,

Thank you both, I'll start making some investigations with them.

Yeah, wanted to suggest BK in Overton as well as they have been recommended to me very long time ago when my Almera required some investigation regarding clunk when shifting gears (I was advised to ignore and live with it).

I'm sure the others will be good. Just fyi it's c£1-1.2K to supply and fit a complete new valve body unit at the above, which I am told is the most economical way to do it.
