I have a spare heater control module, if you don't want to go down the DIY soldering way.

If this is the same problem - when I first got my 2004 S40 the fan was behaving erratically, so I bought some electrical contact cleaner, sprayed the potentiometer, and it's been perfect since...

Thank you Gatos, I was still in shock from the quote the Volvo dealership gave me when I found this post.

Thank you for the information Gatos, I was still in shock from the quote the Volvo dealership gave me when I found this post.
