Your claim could be against:

the retailer under the Sale of Goods Act;
the manufacturer (under the terms of a guarantee if you have one);
a credit company if financed by credit (see ‘Your Rights when Buying on credit’ leaflet); or
the credit card company (see ‘Your Rights when Buying on credit’ leaflet).

Hi 4wheeldriver - copied and pasted from another site.

I was trying to draw your attention to the fact that as your car is dangerous this also entitles you to approach the manufacturer direct under The Dangerous Goods Act. So when safety is compromised, your sale of contract with Doves does not affect to whom you approach to sort this out i.e. Doves or Volvo.
4wheeldriver - I saw a program on TV recently where someone paid the deposit for a car by credit card and the rest by cash. There was an issue with the car and they got a *full* refund from the credit card company even though only the deposit was paid. It seemed weird but was given as an example of the benefits of buying using a credit card. Maybe see if you can dig up more info on this if you paid the deposit on a card.

Does the car have roof bars? If so, you would be well within your rights to get a 'sandwich board' made up and attached to the bars giving the story so far - ALL FACTUAL though and not 'just opinion'. You could then park outside the dealership or drive slowly back and forth past them. I saw this done to very good effect in Sheffield by a person with a grievance against a firm of solicitors. They very quickly came out to 'discuss' the situation.

(Your PM has been received and I am working on it,)

i've been following this thread for a while, its a shocking read, especially the attitude of the dealer and volvo, it certainly puts me buying off a new one. I can only hope that you eventually do get your refund.

the sandwich board is a good idea, that will certainly annoy them. Also would it be worth speaking to someone from your local paper? maybe that will help too.

good luck!

good luck.

Auto express have a very fightback section in their magazine, they regularly have readers writing in when they have had problems with warrantys etc and usually get a good result, you can contact them on - fightback@autoexpress.co.uk

Well I've now been to VOSA with the car this morning and have told VCUK that they are now considering the some of the problems dangerous after the bus incident yesterday. HAve done the relevant paperwork by email and returned it to VOSA along with 2 other complaints of at least one of the faults that others have given me permission to use. The girl at VCUK is now heading to her managers ofice to make him/her aware of the steps ive taken and is going to call me back in the morning with any commentsthey have. Might get taken seriously now.

I would have settled for a wee bit less if they hadnt held their "screw you" stance from both the dealer and VCUK. But that times LONG past
