Default Performance Direct

Hi All,

As some of you may be aware who follow my progress with getting my 240 road legal once more I am getting quite close to completion.

So much so that I have insured in ready for any forthcoming MOT, as with many things these days everything comes down to brass tacks. After a short search on a furry based comparison site I came up with the above insurer with the actual policy underwritten by ageas.

Have any of you out there used Performance Direct?

Or have any of you while in the process of insuring a car been asked to submit six photos of the car parked where it is supposed to be parked?

Can we take it that you have insured this on a classic car policy, on an agreed value and limited mileage basis?

Hi,

As far as I can tell it's just a normal policy would 6000 miles be classed as limited? maybe due to its age they might want photo's!

Where you park the car will make a difference to the price, perhaps they are guarding against 'It will be parked it in my garage' when it actually ends up at the side of a busy road because the garage is full of other stuff and projects?

6000 is a fairly low mileage for an average everyday car nowadays but I've had it on an 'ordinary' policy before now, we have two cars and both work local so we can have low mileage on one of them.

Hello Scott,
Performance Direct is a player in the classic car insurance field, and as I said, it sounds as if you may have bought this form of insurance - or part way to it.
Limited mileage (6K or sometimes 3K) is usually one of the conditions, and the need for photos is normally required where you want to agree a guaranteed pay out sum in the event of a total loss. You state the value of the car, and provide photographic evidence, fill in a Condition form, and if they think your valuation is reasonable, then they will take on the insurance on an Agreed Value basis.
To qualify for this type of insurance, the car will generally have to be at least 20 years old, you will normally have to have another vehicle as a daily driver, and the policy does not depend on, or generate any NCB. Driving will generally be restricted to Social, Domestic and Pleasure and excludes commuting.
Such policies were not bought off comparison websites, and the now numerous classic car policy brokers were simply advertising in the specialist press. Things might have changed.
Perhaps you could give us some more details of the age of the car, the value you placed on it, whether it will be an occasional use car only and is garaged, and what type of use it will be put to - we know your mileage restriction. Also whether you have had to use a NCB for the policy you bought.
My guess is that you are involved with a classic car insurance broker, and they are operating in accordance with their normal requirements, even though you may not have bought their normal classic car policy.
Kind regards,
Austin.

Hi,

I do have another daily driver that has all of my NCB on it, the Volvo is 31 years old and the policy does include comuteing.

Glad to hear others have heard of the company that is reassuring.

Thanks Scott.
So are you going to agree the value?
If not, (and I would) I would question the need for photos.
Kind regards,
Austin.

More than likely yeah, listing the modifications will be a pain.

Hi to anyone interested,

Only yesterday I received a cancellation notice from ageas who where the underwriters as they don't cater for cars with modifications.

You can't make it up.

After an hour on the phone a refund with little in the way of an explanation why an insurance broker presumably catering for performance vehicles choosing an underwriter that won't insure a modified car.

Try Adrian Flux for modified......

Things have clearly changed with PD since I last used them.
