I did clean the two front wheels the other day while I had them off the car while working on the brakes. They had a squeal when hot so I whipped the pads out and cleaned the calipers and pad groves and put copper slip on friction points etc. I also spray painted the calipers with zinc bright silver paint, they look like new again.
The rest of the car looks like I have been driving in the Sahara Desert with fine sand deposits all over it, a good down pour required to wash it off.

Very nice alloys you've got there Milo. Got me thinking, just got to convince her indoors my V90 needs a set...

Not a new XC90, but not totally out of place in the forum as I run a V90 which is next up in the detailing line! Moved in with my girlfriend and her parents for isolation and spending my time detailing their cars. Father in law drives an XC90 which has always been washed by the dealer or local car wash, so I thought I'd turn it around for him.

Paint was pretty flat, swirled and marred before!

Used a DA polisher on it, had to go pretty heavy cut with a yellow Chemical Guys pad and Menzerna 400 heavy cut compound. Refined with 2500 and then coated with Fusso Dark.

Good job, it looks like new.

Sorry to go off topic but It looks like you have Michelin CrossClimate on your car, and I wondered how you find them on the XC90?
I have always used winter and summer tyres but having read that the CC are excellent in winter conditions they are tempting but I am not sure if they are any good in the summer as most review say that all seasons are, to some degree, a trade-off.
Have you had these tyres long enough to say how they perform in hot weather, and if they increase the noise levels and fuel consumption? This would be of interest to me as I currently do lot of motorway miles in the summer months.
I would appreciate your thoughts and this thread has shamed me into cleaning my car!!

Thanks

The MK 1 XC90 detailing is more impressive being an older car that's been round the block a few times, much more work and effort involved than on a newish car, excellent job.

HI XC70 driver,
Not to hijack -but we have 4 Cross CLimates on our 2016 XC90. No more noise than what was on previously (normal summers), and no noticeable increase in tyre wear either. We've done about 15000 miles and got 4-5 mm left so should get say 20k out of them which isn't too bad!
Snow/sun/water all good, it's not a race car after all!
The only downside we've noticed is a noticeable vibration at 68-72 mph on the concrete section of the M25 between the M3 and M23 junctions. We do that once every 2 months, but I could not do that every day! We've got the 20" wheels on our R Design. Different sizes would hit resonance at different speeds I assume.
Worth considering if you do concrete motorway driving regularly. Otherwise absolutely brilliant tyre!

Cheers guys, was also my first time with a DA so lots to learn still! Always been into the cleaning / detailing side of things. Some would consider my day job to be many people's hobby (I'm a full time musician), so finding another hobby like detailing was massively beneficial, if not expensive haha.

It was certainly a task and a half, probably took three days in total to do which included the full wash and decontamination. Next up's my V90 which is and isn't in a worse state... The paint on it is probably better as it's a much newer car, and silver doesn't show as much too, but the alloys have got some heavily baked on brake dust going on. I spend the best part of half a day earlier this week, plus an entire bottle of fallout remover getting them somewhere near. I've since ordered a bottle of CarPro Iron X paste which I can just leave on the spots and let it do it's thing, as part of the issue was the remover not having enough cling... so the parts of the wheel nearer to the ground are now almost perfect thanks to gravity. Once they're clean, they'll be polished a bit to bring some life back into them, and then two coats of ceramic coating will be applied.
