Yep, this is too expensive to sell in great numbers.

I remember reading about someone saying (may have been on here) the the electric XC40 was being mooted that if Volvo could produce an electric XC40 that would do 250-300 miles was decently equipped and cost under £40,000 they would sell rather a lot of cars.

Sadly it wasn't to be.

That was me who said that! Must have been at least a year ago. Glad my posts are remembered!

As you say, wasn't to be.

So basically a Tesla Model Y. This will be a sobering wake up call for Volvo. I'm looking to change my XC60 at the end of 2021 and was hoping to move to an all electric version. Can't see that being any cheaper than £70k, totally unrealistic pricing.
I'm very much leaning towards a Model Y with the 7 seat option. I'll have to forgoe the venitlated massaging seats though

The Model Y looks very tempting. You'll also have to forego the 360 camera because (bizarrely) although Teslas come as standard with multiple cameras they cannot show a 360 view.

Sat in a Tesla a while ago. Tech is undoubtedly impressive but interior materials and build quality were sub-Volvo standard.

Notwithstanding that, lack of 360 camera would be a deal breaker for me.

I tried a Tesla a couple of years ago. Technical tour de force and blistering pace, but panel gaps you can almost shove your fist in and an interior trim quality which reminded me of a 1980s Lotus. Not for me.

I do think the price is extremely punchy considering the competition and I would never buy one as a private buyer.

The Polestar 2, is less when you consider the XC40 needs options, and i'm sure the residuals/GFV's on the Polestar will be higher.

My partner has got the XC40 hybrid company car coming later this year and will probably order the BEV version too as soon as they are available so I will no doubt report back when it comes.

Not yet, Tesla has shown they continue improve upon software. I would not Trust Volvo or even Polestar to do that

I agree the cost is very high for a private buyer, This however is the first car and first Volvo to use Google's vehicle operating system so it will be Google doing the software updates so there is a high chance this will be the best system in the world for a number of reasons. I wonder if they will offer the google system on current models or if they are only using it for the BEV range.

Teslas have been fitted with all-around cameras for many years now but a 360 view is still missing. This suggests there's probably something preventing its implementation such as the position of the cameras on the bodywork and thus their field of view.

Not sure what you mean by not trusting Volvo to improve the software. I've had several software updates that have improved the operation of the car.
