Right, before I hit the buy it now button for the Magnefine, it's absolutely the 1/2" version for the AW50-42 in my 1998 car?

cheers, is the drain plug and the filler plug both through the near side wheel arch? Are they close to each other?

The drain plug is at the bottom of the box and probably best to access from underneath as the spanner needs to be between the box and the sub-frame. The filler plug is accessible through the wheel arch - they are basically one above the other. You will need a small funnel and a length of hose to poke in the filler hole and bring up into the engine bay so it can be filled from above.

Autobox refill is via Dipstick (the one on the box and not yourself or the engine one)😂
