Hi - I had a similar need for awhile, and was told it would be very difficult to remove the center of the wheel and replace it in another one. Not impossible, I'm sure. In the end, what I decided to do was get another steering shaft with the correct splines, and graft it on to the original. If you could find a shaft with the correct splines, that might be an easier option.
In the end, I didn't have to do either, as I found a shaft from a P1800 which is exactly the same length and had the right splines on the bottom, and as it happened the splines on the other end fit the splines on the coupling usually found on the lower section of the steering shaft, so got another one of those, and now I have an intact shaft! (P.S. I hope "steering shaft" is proper english. Here in Canada we would say steering rod. I've spent some time in the UK, and it is amazing how the - hopefully - right words seem to pop into my head as I'm typing) |
