Hi all,

I wonder if you can help:

The clamp which supports the tailpipe section of the exhaust on my V70 appears to have broken and as a result it is moving around and can be heard inside the car.

Could this be something that a normal exhaust centre could deal with, or does the car need a visit to a main dealer to fix the problem?

I would suspect the clamp is a Volvo-only part?

All help appreciated.

Sorted now - local exhaust centre fashioned a clamp and welded.

Cost £10.

I have had the same problem. The 'stay' right at the back rusted off. I too have fashioned a replacement part and am getting it welded this week. I asked the main dealer for that part of the exhaust and the price was £238 all the way back to the box in the middle of the car. Needless to say I didn't purchase the exhaust.

In fact I'm also going to replace the one on my 850 which is going the same way and then treat both 'stays' with Hammerite.

How can they design it, so that when it fails, it is an ancillary support that busts when the rest of the exhaust is still serviceable !!?

My 850 had the same problem....temp fix by wrapping thick wire around it and tying it up to stop it bouncing around, then £10 to get it welded up when I had time to get it sorted.

855s have the same problem
It is a common fault with both models.
My Volvo dealer charged me £28 to weld mine, so £10 is cheap.
