Default P2 lights into P1, sidelight wiring?

Hi all, further to my thread a few weeks ago, I was just wondering if there's a way to wire the sidelight circuit that doesn't involve butchering the wiring inside the lights themselves. I know that on my 4 pin lights there is an unused pin each side that is to do with the sidelights, would this be as simple as using a spade connector to feed that unused pin from the cars existing wiring. I currently have the original wiring and bulb holder plugged into the new lights as it just about reaches but I obviously have to have the rubber covers off and I'd rather have them on, plus the bulb holder in the new lights take capless bulbs which would be better than the weird little bayonet things that the p1 lights come with.

The +ve side light wire needs to be connected to the common pin so that the side lights work with the ignition off. The -ve goes to the spare pin on the back of the headlight. Don't put power to the unused pin, the headlights have one live pin & 3 earths. No modification to the inner headlight wiring required.

Thank you, so does that mean that if I only connect the negative to the unused pin and leave the positive disconnected then the sides will work but only with the ignition on, because if so then this would be beneficial, as I always switch to sidelights during the day so I haven't got drls on all the time, and I very frequently forget to switch back to the 0 position, this could potentially save me a few flat batteries haha

As you say the front won't be on without the ignition, but I think the rears will still be on.
