stuck cd in s60 changer please help
Hi Guys
I've purchased a lovely 2005 S60 D5 and whilst i am over the moon with it, it suffers from the common cd jamming in the in-dash changer. I have tried the different methods of using tweezers, double sided sticky tape, pressing eject when the car isnt moving and nothing is making the damn cd move. I cant play anything. There is a step by step guide i've found on the web on how to remove the unit and remove the cd myself however i'm a little worried about doing this as i've been told by volvo that if i remove the unit then i will set off many error codes on the computer and it will need to be reset by volvo.... so this worries me. I have tried volvo and they said a replacement unit will set me back approx £500.... i nearly fell over! The only really other questions i need to ask are: has anyone removed the unit before and suffered any problems with error codes? Is there a way of fitting a cd changer in the boot and bypassing the cd in the dash.... meaning at least i can play cds from the boot changer?? any help is greatfully appreciated tim ;-) |

This always works on mine. Press eject, gently push another CD into the slot a short distance and then withdraw it. The jammed CD should follow it out. Repeat until it works.
Should perhaps name this the 'withdrawal method'. |

Hi Tim,
If you decide to remove head unit just make sure you disconnect battery and wait atleast 5 mins before removing anything ,This way you can get any error codes.

ha ha very good...
The so called withdrawl method was tried last night... i cant get the cd in at all as there is something blocking the entrance... (more than likely the other cd) I have tried calling Marcel who is the audio expert on volvo which someone kindly sent me the link to, but he wants £350ish to repair my own with the genuine upgrade changer kit from sweeden. This i find a little too high.. especially at the moment... why oh why do volvo make it so difficult to replace parts... I might try my luck with volvo as the car is not long out of its 3 year warranty. Wonder if they will help out with a known fault due to goodwill? |

I have some advice that might help
I had a similar problem when I bought my 2002 S60 with an HU803 CD/radio unit. The dealer tried under warranty swapping the unit from another car for mine but when I got it back the steering wheel controls wouldn't function and the night time lighting on the HU803 wouldn't work and some of the Dolby system went awol also (Volvo said the 2nd hand unit would need to be re-programmed for my car). So, eventually the auto-electrician that was dealing with the problem just swapped the CD unit instead, putting my original HU803 back in my car and by-passed all those problems so, if you can find an old 2nd hand HU803 and get the CD unit transfered you'll be sorted and reasonably cheaply as well.

I made a hook out of some thin wire.
Inserted into slot turned through 90 degrees until hook dropped into hole in CD Pulled the culprit out and then threw it away, CD that is. Yet another withdrawal method! |
