Default Cabin Temp Sensor

We hoovered out the temp sensor hole on the air con panel a few weeks ago. Shortly after the air con started playing up. My brother mailed his PPC reader to me and having just plugged it in it comes back with:
CCM-0004 Passenger compartment temperature sensor. Signal too high / Signal missing
CCM-0004 Passenger compartment temperature sensor. Signal too high or signal missing
Is it possible to dismantle the panel and swap temp sensors (I still have the panel from the scrap XC)?
or
Can I fit the panel from the scrap XC? All the buttons are in the same place, except it doesn't have the heated seat switch (I assume you remove the blank and swap and fit the switch (CanBus?)?

Any help appreciated.

Rob.

I swapped the CCM (Climate Control Module) for the one from the scrap XC today. The switches were all in the same place as the original, except the heated seats were blanked. I disconnected the battery, fitted the panel, swapped the heated seat switches over and it seems to work. That is all except the heated seats, which light up as they should, but I don’t think they are warming up, so I assume they need to be programmed (not worried about that for now!).
Some pictures of the unit during disassembly:

The broken temperature sensor:

Anybody got any suggestions for replacement of the sensor wire? I assume soldering back together will be no good? If need be I will unsolder the one from the good CCM, and fit to the original CCM which has the heated seats working. I am in no rush, and will probably do it just before the colder months return, however if anyone has any suggestions that save me having to dismantle the good unit, and would allow me to repair the existing it would be appreciated.

I assume the wire broke whilst it was being hoovered to get the dust out, so be warned!

Rob.

Hi, I don't think this is just a wire, it should actually be a thermistor with a temp sensitive blob on the wire. If you could find the spec of thermistor then a replacement should be possible. does the sensor wire on the replacement not have temp sensing blob (the one on mine looks about the size of a match head , but I can only see it through the slats on the dash). Photos of a good one would be appreciated.

Question How to disassemble the CCM...

Hi. I also broke the sensor bulb in the thermistor whil cleaning out dust bunnies. I bought a used CCM that I want to remove the thermistor from -- yes, it's good -- and re-solder into my existing CCM. The only problem is I don't know how to disassemble the CCM.

I lifted the tabs along the top and was able to just pry the top of the faceplate back a bit but no more. I thought the knobs might be holding it but they didn't want to pull off and I don't want to exert too much pressure on anything until I understand how its supposed to come apart.

I see that you've had yours in lots of different pieces. Can you tell me what I need to do in order to gain access to the circuit board behind the little 3-slot gril that holds the thermistor?

Thanks in advance,

Howard

Hi Howard, welcom to the forum.
Just posting a reply so that you dont feel too unloved and ignored.
I have done this job on my xc90 and it is relatively easy.
I did it over a year ago so cant remember exactly where the clips etc are, however, once you get the whole central unit removed from the car, the rest is fairly logical, i dont remember any nast hidden clips or weird tecniques needed to dismantle. there is a clear plastic thing that channels light to the controls that fell loose out of mine and i had to use logic to work out how it fitted back, but i think the rest is just simple clips and screws.

Sorry I cant be more specific.

I would also suggest you change the thermistor for a new one.
