Default Open Door Light

Hi guys,

Can someone help me with this?

Car failed MOT last week for the number plate lights not working (crap reason to fail I know). After changing the bulbs and still not working, I spoke to the local car parts dealer who said they could have a look for me. They said that it was disconnected at the back, when they re-connected it the open door light appeared on the dash.
It will still pass the MOT but as I have young kids, I can't risk having a light telling me a door is open and not knowing for sure.
Anyone have a similar problem??
Anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

Thanks guys.

Is the boot interior light working? Sounds like the switch in the boot lid latch has failed, so to lose the door open light someone just unplugged the whole boot lid wiring loom.

Sorry - I don't know off the top of my head how to change that switch but doubtless others will....but that's certainly where I would look at first.

As a quick fix, you could connect the number plate lights to the tail light circuit instead of reconnecting the boot switch.

That would get rid of the false 'door open' warning light.

Also, switch the child locks on, so the kids can't open the rear doors.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for that. One other thing, once I received the car back I noticed the clock and tripometer was back at zero. This now happens everytime I start the car. I am hoping that once I try to switch the circuits, as you said, that everything goes back to normal. Any thoughts??

That sounds like the clock have lost their capability to remember the data (mileage and trip).
Could be a broken wire/connector ribbon in the cluster circuit and possibly coincidental, rather than connected.

Usually, the data stays on the clocks, even if they have been removed from a vehicle for quite some time.

If nothing else, you will have one of the lowest mileage X40's in the country, if not the world!

Let us know what happens with the readings, once the lights have been sorted out.

Hi jynxyjuice!
My V40 1.9d 2004 has this problem. Did you you find a fix for it in the end? I'm guessing you don't drive that car anymore as it's been a decade!

I doubt you will get a response as he hasn't been on the forum since 2013.
