Default Higher Profile Tyres on 18" wheels

It occurred to me today whilst looking at my car in the pub car park today that there's a load of room under the wheel arch.

I have 18" BBS Wheels with the standard 235/60 R18 tyre but I've read a few comments here about the benefits of 17" wheels due to the better ride from the higher profile.

I was just wondering if anyone has experimented with putting anything higher than a 60 Series tyre on an 18" XC90 wheel

Get someone to hold your steering on full lock, then poke your arm round the back and see how close the tyre gets to your inner arch, I bet its not much.

I guess your right by about 6% I calculate. So my speedo would be about 3MPH out at 50 MPH.

and the gearing would be higher meaning the engine would feel less lively ... and probably use more fuel due to you demanding more power all the time .

I ran 18's with a 3% larger rolling radius.

You'd be surprised how much LESS lively the car feels.

Agreed, mine is approx 2mph slow at 70MPH (measured on a flat straight road using a tomtom)

That is to say if the car reads 72MPH, then the tomtom states 70MPH.
