Amazon front springs
I have just changed the front springs and shock absorbers as the ride height was too low. I seem to remember reading about spacers at the top and it being important to get them in the right position. Mine didn't have any spacers which was odd. One of the springs had a broken lower link which I thought must account for the slightly drivers side down position. However, having now gone for a run, the drivers side is still 1.5 cm lower than the passenger side with no one in it, looks even more pronounced than before. They are standard road springs from Simon and were both the same height. The passenger side has a centre bearing cap to wheel arch measurement of 370 mm and the drivers side 355 mm which is lower than what should be standard at 400 mm in any case which has led me to wonder if the spacers are missing. Anyone any ideas?

It's behind you...
If the rear springs are uneven they will make the whole car lean over slightly, of course.
There are no spacers for the front springs, just a thin rubber 'gasket' between the top of the spring and the underside of the axle beam.

Will be having a look this afternoon, something is clearly wrong the imbalance is quite pronounced. Old cars, who'd have them, oh that would be all of us!

Did you tighten the wishbone bolts with the car resting normally on a flat surface. The bushings set themselves partly rotated if you don't do that. This can cause the car to be high if the car had the suspension hanging down when you tightened the nuts. Try loosening off all of the nuts and then bounce the front of the car up and down a few times then repeat before tightening them up again.

Cured
Well its time to put my dummies hat on. I slackened off the wishbone bolts but whilst under there noticed I had mounted the V shaped lower ball joint carrier on top rather than underneath the wishbone. I think the slackening off of the back pivot bolt also helped because both sides are a perfect 40 cm between wheel arch and hub centre. Standing in the corner now with my new hat on.

Hello niveketak, I think everyone of us wears this hat in the past, standing in the corner.
only a few admit the reason. Good luck, and this will never happen to you again, Kay |
