There has been a few people that have had problems with their FPR (fuel pressure regulator) on the T5 engine, this may cause your symptoms. T5Monkey had a problem with his FPR so maybe he can confirm if he suffered the same symptoms.

Does the car have a dump valve ?
If so and its twin piston type they can ware out
and stick open and will also cause same problems

If it's sudden and intermittent (esp after coming off cruise control) it'll be the Fuel Pressure sensor - very common fault.

You can get the Bosch part number and get them for around £100 a piece.

Should pull stronger once it's in too if its worn.
