Default Removing brake booster without moving engine

Fitting to my rhd diesel is easy enough, just enough space between oil filter and bulkhead.

Looking for info on removing one from a petrol car, most of them use the same booster unless it's equipped with tracs or awd.

In a scrap yard kind of hard to get under most cars to allow dropping off sub frame, hence wonder of there is another way.

Hi Brickman

(I dont know about diesels).

On a 1998/1999 petrol V70 the brake vacuum servo is on the bulkhead

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/251866454489

Is that what you mean?

Surely that is removed from above, not touching the subframe? (But I haven't done one myself).

the problem is that the servo arm is that long the engine is in the way getting it out, yes lowering subframe is necessary, but only slightly. swapped a few rotten servos in my time

Seem to recall someone in the V70 P2 section going after the engine mounts and levering the thing out of the way.

Yeah that's the issue, it fowls manifold and cylinder head long before its clear l. On lhd cars it's no problem
As it's coming out of a scrap car chopping up the rest of it is not a problem!
Getting it back in the diesel is easier.

If in the scrap yard .
You can remove the servo , by removing the top mount and front engine mount.
Then tilt engine forward and bending the bulkhead/heater intake chamber metal work back.
I removed one like this not long ago and did not take much work or time.
Off a 1997 T5. Sounds brutal but works ok and gives you room to get the servo out.

Good Day DunkinBiskits ) Would you please be able to add some details or tips regarding replacing the Brake Booster on a 2001 xc70 yeap the Rhd. I now live in NZ and it's pretty hard to get this info, I understand it is doable and a tad harder than the Lhd,,,
The engine needs to be dropped approx 14 cm is the only real info I have found so far, any and all info will be really appreciated. Regard's Taffybrick

Hi mate, never done one on a p2 car. id imagine its a similar process and from memory the actuator bars are about the same length. Drop the driver side of subframe and control it with a jack. Sorry i cant offer any other advice besides making sure you keep the master cylinder as good as flat/level to avoid any air ingress into the system. Saves you bleeding it off unnecessarily.

Am likely going to need to do this at some point in a 2007 V50 D5.

Looking at VIDA - it recommends dropping engine by 6cm, do I need to remove both the right and left engine pad to do this or can it be done by just removing the right (as sat in car) engine pad?

Hi Rich

You might have more luck in the forum for V50 questions.

Hope that helps,
