Overnight stops
Like a lot of caravaners I do like traveling at night when there's less people around on the roads and less people to upset by towing a van.
Most places I've been to with the van have been a few hours drive so haven't had the need to stop overnight en route with the van yet. However, I'm planning some longer distance tours which would probably need a stop overnight on the way. Are there official places for this or is it just pot luck? Most car parks do not permit overnight parking and/or caravans and motorhomes and I don't really fancy just pulling in at any old lay by. Motorway services might offer some facility if you happen to be on the motorway network but if you're not (and the point of this assumes you're not) there has to be some way of kipping overnight and continuing the next day, no? Truck stops are an option but don't know how welcome caravaners would be? Another option would be to take cheeky advantage of late night arrival bays at campsites but I don't imagine I'd be very popular with the site owners. I can't be the only person who has thought about this so there must be a pragmatic solution, surely? I was kind of hoping there would be some sort of shared list online of overnight stopping places people had used but so far haven't found one. Anyone got any thoughts?

I did come across Britstops but unless I misunderstood it seemed to be geared to Motorhomes only.

I tried this once before, years ago. The problem with truck stops is they are very noisy with trucks coming and going at all times and the engines in refrigerated trucks running 24/7. so much so I never tried it again....
