Default Wing mirror adjustment

I'm just working through the various bits and bobs needed on my new V70 2013. One of the last remaining jobs is to investigate why the tilt up/down motion on the offside wing mirror isn't working.

Every other adjustment works, and they power-fold in and out fine too.

Before I take it apart and attack it with my multimeter - is this a common fault with a common cause?

Could it be that the white plastic "wands" inside aren't in the correct tracks?

If it had been all movement stopping, I'd have also wondered about the switch on the door and suggested setting car settings to dip mirror when in reverse gear, to see if the motor worked. But it seems the motor works, it's just one movement (up/down) that is affected. It could hypothetically, I suppose, be that element of the switch so may be trying that dip setting when in reverse, but that's just a theoretical analysis.

The dip in reverse "thing" is only on autos - I know, because I tried to make it work on mine, but it's a manual!

Thanks all for the suggestions.

After taking the glass off and metering the terminals, all the right voltages appeared in the right places. I then removed the central Torx screw that securing the actuator to the mirror body and discovered one of the connector pins was bend backwards. Clearly someone had previously forced the plug in, bent the pin and not bothered to test it. Bent it all back straight and all works perfectly now!

Also of note was that the lugs that held the back of the actuator on were all broken off, and the two white plastic guides on the back of the glass are missing. Amongst the pile of invoices that came with the service history was one from a Volvo dealer for replacing a wing mirror. I do hope it wasn't they that left it in such a mess .

Anyway, all's well that ends well. No cost to me, working mirror.

Interesting, mine (now fixed!) doesn't do this, and I don't have a setting for it either. It's an auto. :

That's great news.

Had similar at home when we were getting nuisance trips. Someone had just twisted a 240v connection onto a spade terminal, so as a mechanical timer switched on the connection wasn't good over time so system tripped as the switch clicked on!

The ability of people to thoroughly balls up very simply tasks always amazes me! Someone was paid to break this mirror, the previous (first) owner kept the receipts for EVERYTHING!
