Default 1,9 liters of petrol on my 2003 XC70 D5

Was on a weekend trip with the family this weekend. With three screaming kids in the back seat I managed to fill 1,9 liters of petrol onto the tank before I realized the mistake. Called my father and he suggested everything would be ok as long as i didn't start the car. He said that I should put a dash of two-cycle/stroke oil in the tank and fill it full with diesel. I did. 55 liters on top of 13 liters of diesel and 1,9 liters of petrol. No issues with the car afterwards. Have been driving it for about 200km since the incident. Am I in the clear? I'll top the tank with diesel after I'm finished at work again today.

I have done something similiar in the past in a Freelander TD4 though it was considerably more petrol. Just kept topping up every day with diesel to keep diluting the petrol. Car was fine with no lasting problems.

If still unsure ring Volvo.

My own feeling is that your Dad is just about spot on - even down to the 2 stroke oil as a lubricant.

Alll the best John D

Never thought of the 2-stroke oil idea but you should be OK. My sis did very similar with her X3 and has suffered no problems.

I've done it myself too with a D5.

Put about £4 worth of unleaded in before I noticed. I phoned the Volvo dealer and even they said to "fill it up with diesel, take it easy and keep topping it up with diesel and you should be fine". It was fine with no lasting effects.

Really wouldn't want to make a habit of it though......

Tigger.

Thank you for the reassuring replies!! After reading about how sensitive the commonrail diesel engines are I was really worried.
