Ooooer matron ...........
its only today I checked the tyre sizes on my newly aquired 740 saloon . It has 195 65 15 tyres on it , from what im lead to believe the saloons should wear 195 60 15 . Now will the slightly larger profile tyre be a problem ..... the tread on them are pretty good , but does wallow around a bit which im wondering is that because of the larger profile tyre .
Any advice please as to what you think I should do with them . |

Are they economy brand or a mid to top range tyre. I used to have economy 195 65 14 on my 940 but they were marked comfort sport. There was quite a lot of give in the side walls. I now run a mid range goodyear sport tyre which seems a lot better. It has a higher ply rating. Another point to check is tyre pressures and also if your speedos accurate with the larger tyres?

Looking at the tyres they are an economy brand , never heard of them if im honest . Something like driver or something lol . Speedo is pretty much acurate according to the satnav anyway ... a mile or two out the higher the speed the more it was out but im not going to be doing over 70mph anyway .

The sidewall is a whole 1cm lower with the 60 profile tyres, perhaps not enough to let you shadow Fangio through the chicane.
As mentioned, have you tried upping the tyre pressures a bit to stiffen the handling? Most of my driving is across B roads so I’m loving the luxury of a compliant ride; but nothing stops you driving like a lunatic despite poor grip – see episodes of Starsky & Hutch for details |

I reckon if you can cope with them use them until there nearly worn out. Ive found in the past that the rubber cheap tyres are made of tends to go a bit hard with age and you loose grip which makes it very easy to loose the back end on greasy roads especially when there getting a bit worn. I used to change them as soon as they got near the wear marks even though they had a reasonable bit of life left in them.
