Default Cabin noise after recon gearbox

Hi,

XC90 D5 auto 2004
I have just had my gearbox reconditioned including new torque converter, now I notice there is a loud engine noise in the cabin (sounds like the belts and pulleys are in the cabin with me) it sounds like I have the window open and the bonnet off.
All the sound seems to be coming through the drivers side of the dash (clocks and dials / right hand side of heater vent.
Previously this was a lovely, quiet and luxurious car to drive but now it sounds like I own (at the risk of offending some) a fiat panda or Citroen 2cv

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?
Is there any reason that sound proofing would be removed to strip out a gearbox?

Any help would be much appreciated

Might be they've not correctly refitted some sort of rubber bung / plate somewhere. Gave the garage a call and let them know you're not happy with it and will be returning it to them to rectify the problem.

I agree, sounds like a cover or gaiter has been ill fitted. A lot of noise can come through the gear lever gaiter, I know from test driving "incomplete" cars.

They have pulled steering column bearing apart at top of rubber boot by your feet,

Have a glance down at it by pedals you will see a little matal coller floating about round top of boot, where steering column goes through bulkhead,

It needs pushing back down into top of bush, bit of wd40 and patience and they usually just pop back in,

Happens when you push steering column up off rack before dropping subframe

Noticed also that there is a rubber on rubber noise coming from the steering wheel now, is this part of the same issue?
