Default 1999 V70 SE Auto 2.4 20v 201k miles- Time to go

Hello. I am not a regular on the forum.

I first drove this in 2000 as it was a pool car at my office. I bought it from the company in 2012.

MOT to September 2024. Daily driver doing 7k miles a year.

Airbag light is on. Engine management light is on. Needs a new exhaust. Selection of first gear and reverse can he clunky when the car is warm, but not when cold - been like this 10 years.

It has had a lot of maintenance over the years as it has been part of my life for so long.

I don't want hassle. The easiest thing is to drive into a scrapyard and dump it.

AC works, ABS is OK, heated seats, leather seats, elec sunroof works, front and rear window wipers work, original alloys with centres, retractable load cover works.

It is using less than 5l of oil between annual services.

Is there a better future for the car ? Is there an enthusiast who could use it to keep other V70s alive /wants the engine out of it ?

Any advice gratefully received.

Thank you

For me the killer was the introduction of clean air zones which I think will get worse over time. Otherwise, if I wasn't inside the m25 ring, I would have kept our 1999 S70 going. Like yours the main would have been, having owned the car for over 20 years, it's history.

So I would say, it depends on your plans. I would keep it going as long as you can.

Hello 'Gatvol', As the owner of a Ph. 1 2000 V70 10V myself, I agree with 'Jas16'. As you will know well, these are excellent well built motor cars. I don't know about the SRS light, but I doubt it's a major issue, possibly a sensor gone bad on the seat, maybe? The EML is a common issue on these cars. Mine is also on the majority of the time. It does not affect the performance or MPG and my garage tells me that it is most likely a borderline sensor and that it's OK to live with it.

If you scrap it what will you get, a few hundred at most? What will you get to replace it, and at what cost? If you are happy with the car, know both it's history and it's foibles, why not invest a few hundred in sorting the current issues and then continue to enjoy reliable, safe, comfortable, depreciation free motoring for a few more years? Much greener than a new EV in my opinion!

Regards, John.
