Fixing a V40 wing mirror
Any guides on here for how to disassemble/fix a 2001 V40 wing mirror?
My left door mirror appears partially disconnected from the mechanism behind, and flaps about at high speed. Adjustment mechanism partially works, but doesn't move the glass quite in the direction you'd expect - I believe probably due to the fact that the glass is only half connected. Without seeing what's behind the glass, I'm not that confident with trying to push it home, or to pull it out for a quick look. Any ideas on how to proceed, or link to guides/pictures? |

My mirror had this issue with a flapping body in the wind at speed and bad mechanism. The flapping body was caused by broken plastic tabs where it attaches to the metal mirror body and the poor movement was because the mechanism uses plastic gears and teeth can snap.
I rectified mine by replacing the mirror with a part from a scrap yard. Colour doesn't matter as you can swap your coloured backing onto the newer one.

This is a video on YouTube which shows you how to remove the glass from the mirror, everything else is self explanatory once the glass is off. If replacing the mirror unit the whole door card comes off to get to the back of the mirror bolts.
