Default HELP!! ECU dead but I don't want have to scrap the car

850 T5 1995:

I love my T5 but after numerous garage visits it is now confirmed that the ECU is dead and can't be repaired. I have tried so many ECU specialists etc. but I'm getting the impression they are laughing at me when I tell them; apparently there were some 14 different ECU's used on the T5's during the late 1990's!
Does anyone have a T5 they are breaking or similar, with an ECU that will do the job? Or, any recommendations for an alternative unit?
The 'dead' ECU is a BOSCH 0261 200 549
I really don't want to give up on the car and break it.

Upgrade to a Motronic 4.4 ECU? Better than scrapping the car...

Thank you. I'll have to refer this to my other half as it's far too technical for me.

Motronic 4.3 ecus are fairly plug and play....

IIRC a auto ecu will work on both auto & manual but a manual ecu will only work on manual...

I do have two 4.3 ecus kicking about but I never get round to posting stuff like that hence why I have them!

This is definitely not something worth scrapping a car.

You could either find another M4.3 ECU, with people still parting out these cars it shouldn't be impossible, or upgrade to an M4.4 if you feel like it.

Many thanks for this, Motronics seems the way to go (even the Haynes manual refers to it). How about breaking a habit of a lifetime and mailing one out to me? I'll reimburse you the costs and, of course pay you for the unit. PM me if you are able to oblige. Tx

Another option for cars where you're starting to distrust the older electronics and/pr they are becoming rare is to fit an aftermarket Megaquirt ECU and (where appropriate), individual spark plug coil packs while you're there to get rid of all the HT paraphernalia, not that expensive. More popular cars will have maps ready to go but something more left-field may require a fair bit of rolling road time or a Wideband Lambda setup for closed loop auto tuning. More often than not most cars with any form of stock EFi will already have all the triggers and sensors you need fitted.
