Who makes Volvo belts ?
Ok so auxiliary belt and tensioner due this year. Got genuine Volvo off internet for £92.70 including p+p, dealer wanted £130 for same kit.
Question is does Meyle make belts for Volvo? If so Auto doc does the air con stretch belt for £18 including p+p rather than the £40 including p+p for genuine. Autodoc site says they are original quality. Just wondering if anyone can confirm who makes belts for Volvo. Thanks Paul.

Probably various manufacturers, and maybe several at the same time, such as Continental (conti-tech), Gates, Dayco etc.
It is a bit of a lottery when you buy non-genuine, I don't take any notice of OEM manufacturer or OEM quality - it's a very mis-used claim. However, quite low risk with the AC belt.

I’ve also got aux belt to change, the tensioner is made by dayco as it’s stamped on it. My genuine belt has made in Italy on it. Not sure where dayco stuff is made I know they make a lot of ford stuff perhaps dayco make the belt? Belt and tensioner from same manufacturer you would hope made for a reliable system

I edit the above, I found the photo from the listing when I bought the belt and tensioner kit. It’s also made in Italy so from this I would conclude the main aux belt at least is dayco as well.
Other belts who knows, I know INA make a lot of oem belts and belt components for timing belt systems. The alternator clutch pulley is INA. I would say they have tie ups with a number of manufacturers. I’d always stick to genuine for fear of failure on these.

I've just done a full belt change on a 2013 D5 on 98k - the first change. Old and new aux tensioner stamped Dayco (as per photo above) old belt (which I'm 99% sure is factory or Volvo dealer fitted at 54k) stamped Dayco, new belt marked Volvo.

Many thanks all.
My Volvo aux belt kit arrived today and confirm the tensioner is Dayco, Volvo part number31330379. Belt indeed says Volvo made in Italy. One has to remember these cars are of the Ford era, where cost cutting came before quality in many ways. My question was mainly because Autodoc describe the Meyle air con belt as Original quality and Elastic, stating its materials as ethylene propylene diene Monomer EPDM ( M class rubber) While the Bosch belt they sell is described as elastic. The air con belt on this engine, and most of the D5 engines of this time is stretch fit. There is substantial saving buying factor part belts, the Meyle is £11.47+p&p, the Bosch £10.99 p&p , the Dayco £13.13+p&p. While the Volvo belt is £31.95 +p&p. I have a pair of Meyle rear trailing arm bushes on the shelf ready for when needed. I have used Dayco belts for many years on the land rover without problems, Aux and Timing, mind I do change the timing belt at 30,000 mile intervals due to wading the car, so would not expect problems anyway, the aux belt when it’s shows signs of wear. That engine is however a safe sealed timing case and a snapped aux belt cannot derail the timing belt as is possible on the D5 engine. The one thing I know for sure is Volvo, like all car makers, do not make belts or bushes, they buy them in from 3rd parties. I am currently thinking of going with the Meyle, if only because they are telling you what their belt is made of. Second choise would be Dayco. Don’t need them for a couple of months so time to ponder. Paul.

Girling, ATE Hella , Cibie Mahl , hepolite.....etc when they brought out the 343 in 1976 they used the Renault 1397cc engine however after the first few months there was a recall to fit new Mahle pistons and Valves. They now last as long as traditional volvo engines, i changed lots of burned out valves in 1977! Volvo tell the supplier what quality of part they want and it is usually higher than the other companies they supply. so that it why its sensible to buy the volvo version, why would you buy a lesser quality part from elsewhere for such a vital job...
