940 turbo
ok i have had this wakey idea that has come to my mind
i have been given a t5 turbo is it posibale to put it on a 2 litre 8 valve engine <b200ft> as the curent one is a mitsey and teribial just fort it would be odd to see a 940 t5 boming around looked at the housing and it is similar to the one that is on there now |

Hi Adamsky,
As someone famously said - it depends I also have a T5 turbo - its a mitsu td04hl15g from a 94 car (I think). The G pattern turbines are far superior and despite some comments, its spools up virtually as quickly as the smaller 13c turbo fitted to the B200FT (and B230FK/FT) but gives a bigger punch. The thing to check for is the exhaust outlet - if it has a conical outlet, then it'll fit your exhaust downpipe as is. If not, you'll need to make up a new downpipe as the flat flange doesn't sit easily (or for long) on the 15g turbo. To be honest, if you're fitting a 15g you should also fit a larger bore exhaust system - minimum of 2.5 inch and max of 3.0 inch. You'll need to rotate the inlet/outlet cartridges so that everything lines up ok, and you'll need to make up a strong bracket for the turbo actuator - apart from that, its about as straightforward a turbo swap as there is. You can use the samo oil lines, although I'd recommend getting new ones - the carbon buildup inside the lines can break away and wreck your 15g very quickly. There is a write up with pictures on a website but I can't find the URL at the moment - if you do a search on www.turbobricks.com you should find plenty of info - its a popular modification over there. Enjoy!

Oh yes, the red block engine is very, very tough - it'll take 13psi and retain reliability. 15psi is a safe maximum - more than this and you need head work, a bigger intercooler, bigger injectors and a big exhaust to keep the temperatures down (intake and exhaust). Some US people run their B230FT/15G cars at 20psi - the bottom end will take it, but at that level of boost you need to watch the temperatures and fuel mixture very very carefully - the pistons are liable to melt
Horsepower wise, some mad Swedes recently built a B230FT with a 16valve head and a truck turbo - it made around 1000bhp IIRC Its a tough engine.
