Default T5/T5-R turbo

It appears the T5/T5-R turbo is obsolete and it is no longer possible to source a new replacement.

Are there other options that would be a straight fit replacement?

Thanks,

Is it essential to have a new replacement?

Have you thought about having your old unit remanufactured? If so then give Ivor Searle in Soham a call. Probably best to contact them through their website in the current Covid-19 situation.

They are in your area and had a turbo facility added to their new building only a few years ago. Just Google them for contact details and what they do.

Just buy a CHRA from Melett to suit the original turbo. A mitsubishi Td04 15g in the T5s and T5-r.

https://www.turborebuild.co.uk/websh...urbo-Core.html

Pull the cold side of the turbo - leaving the hot side bolted to the manifold - swap out the CHRA - replace the recirc valve & actuator if they are weak (check ebay for spares) - then slide it back in, bolt up central clamp, the coolant & oil lines, replace vac hoses as required.

Job jobbed.

Set you back about £150 in parts. Hard on the knuckles, getting the banjo bolts out, but very straightforward otherwise.

If your not mechanically minded then tak3 it to a garage who can either do the above or take the whole turbo off & semd it to one of the numerous Turbo rebuild specialist before refitting the reconditioned unit. You won't see much change from £650 plus, depending on your garages hourly rate and how much you pay for the turbo rebuild, normally about £350 ish with postage.

Good luck, its a easy fix, and you have choices.

Cheers, Morgan

Anything stopping an individual from slapping a 16T CHRA in there? (With supporting mods done ofc).

You would need the compressor housing as well.

Yes, but you may pay more than needed and they are fairly standard...

Assuming you are staying fairly standard I would just find a 16T unit from a svc70t5 and split it leaving your exhaust housing in place and just directly fitting the turbo core and compressor housing.

Why not just get a TD05 18G? and obviously have the supporting mods to run it.

Are the later turbos a straight swap on a T5-R (conical vs straight flange)?

Is that the idea behind splitting and keeping the original exhaust housing?

Really looking at 18/19T options that can be fitted to a T5-R, but keeping the original turbo intact so the car can be returned to standard.

Yes, but if you are looking to upgrade to 18/19t you would be better off finding an angled downpipe/cat anyway.

The scrap value of cats has gone right down recently so it is a god time to find one
