Default 98 c70 service reminder light

As we all know the trick of holding in the trip reset button and turning to ignition II does not work on a 98, I have always been told on a 98 you need a older type code reader to reset.
So today I tried this:-
You must have all doors and windows closed.
Push in the INFO reset button and hold (not TRIP button) turn ignition to II and keep holding INFO button in for 15 seconds release INFO button and switch ignition OFF, then start car and service light should extinguish. Well it did for me.
During this process the service light does not flash or beep or give any kind of signal, it just stays alight.
Cheers

2 hours to take top off the dash to remove the bulb 2 hours to put top of the dash back or 15 seconds to push a button, I know what I'll take the bulb out, makes perfect sense to me.

Well done! Every day is a school day! The S/V40 pre 1999 had the same issue whereby you needed the specific tool to reset the light. I wonder does it work for other models pre '99?

The service light bulb on a p1 70-series takes just a few minutes to remove. If you drop down the plastic panel that covers the void around the pedal bracket and steering column it's perfectly feasible to reach up behind the dash and pop the bulb out. In terms of dismantling there's a singe Torx screw that holds the lower dash panel in place, easily visible and accessible just under the sterring column cowl. Remove that screw and the panel can be pulled down.

If you fancy a bit more dismantling then you can very easily remove the dash top and access the back of the instrument binnacle. There are eleven Torx bolts that hold the dash top in place. You need to pop out the speaker covers and air vents, and two of the bolts are hidden under the glove box lid. The dash top then lifts off in one piece. It's a doddle and should take no more than ten minutes.

I appreciate that in doing this you'll disabling a part of the car's functionality, but having run several 70's of that vintage, and doing all the servicing myself, I got fed up with the service light staying on - even though it goes out after a couple of minutes anyway. Plus it gives you a "free" spare bulb and bulb-holder to have should another more critical bulb blow!

Like so much else about the p1 70-series, they are surprisingly easy to take apart - and just as important, to put back together!

Cheers

Jack
