Default Turbo related issue

Hi folks, I was giving it big licks overtaking and about 5 seconds after completing the manoeuvre, there was a noise like sommat let go and pretty much lacking power, not embarrassing at all lol,, it would sort of hunt getting going, and would do much more than 40mph, luckily I was a couple of miles from home and my village garage where I dropped it off, they couldn't see out but thinks its either the pipe split or turbo gone, I did rev it for them as asked and you could here the turbo spool quote loudly but it was obviously spinning, any thoughts please, say its the pipe, pleaseeeee.....

First off...."...and would do much more than 40mph,". Would or wouldn't do...?
Proofreading helps; just sayin'.

If it isn't a split boost or intercooler pipe I'd check the operation of my "hooter valve". Likely it has a name like "excess boost dump valve". I changed two of them in the family's turbocharged cars. Also, the electronic valve which controlled the hooter valve went bad once. It's absence of function caused an over-boost condition and made intake hoses blow off their barb fittings.

I think we all assumed 'wouldn't' ..

I dont have a turbo but I would like a quid for every time I've read 'the boost pipe had popped off'

fingers crossed for a cheap quick fix

Yeah, thanks, that's one of the words that i type wrong, pretty much every time and i forget, from i spell as form and so on, i type too fast, plus it was outside in the sun on my phone, that's my main excuse and I'm sticking to it..

.. Sounds like the pipe then, I have recently rang them and they said the lad looked at it on the ground ad it does look like the pipe has split but till not know any more until a ramp becomes available...

Sounds like overboost followed by limp mode, the hose is the 1st place to look but you might have stuck veins assuming your car uses VVT.

Its not the turbo, thank god, but its a pipe that has some seals in it so quite expensive and can only get it from Volvo atm, looking at £345 all in

If yours is a Euro 4 D5 then the seals you mention might the resonator box ones. These failed on mine before I got the resonator box replaced with an aftermarket silicone hose. There is also a pipe coming from the box which needs to be properly supported.

If you do a search for “resonator” or similar you’ll find a few threads on this matter. Here is one such example:
