Default Momentary “engine performance reduced” message VEA D4

So a few times now inc tonight driving back from in-laws I get a momentary message literally flash on dash that says engines performance reduced and a picture of a tortoise and a dpf? Orange box full of dots?

What does this indicate? Or mean? Usually happens (as it did this evening) shortly after pulling on to motorway and setting a cruise speed....

Is this the sign of a regen? An aborted regen? Ran most of the way back at over 2k rpm (after seeing this flash up but 65/70 is under 2k rpm in 6th.... )

Had this and the engine cut out when decelerating (slowing on engine braking) on an uphill slip road and when entering a mway services car park both after long constant speed runs and once when turning right across a small road (that time the whole car shut down wasnt a stall was more like the plug was pulled) now car is under warranty and I know I should be on to dealer but they are a pain I won’t be using them once the service plan expires.....how urgent is this as I’ve been putting it off for a while already .........

Start from here or grab your popcorn, drink and rewind to the beginning and enjoy...

There should be a stored diagnostic trouble code that'll help to identify the problem.

There are several common VEA problems (including blocked EGR cooler and sooted-up exhaust manifold oxygen sensor) that can flag the warning tortoise, but then the DPF warning light doesn't normally come on. When my engine cut out a few times before dying it was because the EGR valve was sticking open.

Hard to say how serious this is without knowing what the problem is, but after my EGR valve began sticking open the car soon became undriveable and had to be recovered. I'd get it back to the dealer ASAP.
