Volvo S40
Hi everyone,I have a 2007 Volvo S40 with just over 30,000 miles on it from new the issue i have at the moment is this.
Firstly when i drive off from the front of my house or car park or any fresh starts and put the lock on full Left or Right depending on which way i am turning as i get about 50 yards or so you can hear a clonk/clank as i get straight it sounds as if something has popped back in, it happens on both sides but not at the same time depends if i start off left or right on full lock. If its left full lock it will happen on the left and then you will hear the clonk/clank after 50 yards or so and the same on the right but you dont hear it anymore whilst driving its only when you start off first thing. [Thinking Drive shafts/CVT possibly] dont know. Its a lovely car but is getting on my nerves have asked a few people they say drive shafts/suspension mounts but i dont know can anyone help with this please. Thanks Richard. I do shift work so will try to answer questions as soon as i can Thank you. |

Firstly, these cars do an ABS test that makes a small clunking noise shortly after you move off, and you will feel that through the brake pedal.
However, if your noise is a loud "clack clack clack" on full lock at low speed, that suggests that your driveshaft outer joints are worn out. These cars are old now, so (depending on which engine you have) may be worth throwing in some ised Ford Focus Mk2 driveshafts, as there will be a lot to chose from. |
