The car will feel a little different as the wheels sit a little further in/out from the centre point depending on ET value. It is still legal though as you will see from the KBA document you should get with the wheels to prove they are legal for the vehicle.

Not sure what software change is required. Never had to do any of that with my car. Maybe recalibrate the TPMS (RDKS - Reifendruckkontrolsystem) ? My car does not have this.

Is that bad if the wheels are bit away from the centre?

I don't understand the question ? It is one of the considerations when designing the car setup. Why would Volvo, or any car manufacturer for that matter, build and market a badly handling car ?

Do not worry about the offset/ET. In Germany you can only buy and fit accessories that have been tested and KBA marked for your vehicle. Anything else is illegal.

Sorry I am a baby when it come to car and this is my first one. I thought I made a mistake again as different people said different things. ATU saidc225/45will work, but Volvo denied it saying software update is necessary
This is my third visit, of course to another car shop.

Better to ask if you are at all unsure. You are the customer, you are spending your money. If you feel you are not being helped, walk, take your business elsewhere.

Ask what the software update is for then take that and ask another dealer. Ask an independent, ask on here. Any business worth giving your money to will take the time to explain if you are unsure.
If you don't feel happy walk, do some more research, they will always be there if you want to go back.

Personally I wouldn't be happy with a 42mm offset. You're pushing the wheels 13mm further out and whilst this will be fine on the rear it could lead to rubbing when on full lock at the front, especially when you consider the 235 45 18 setup is the larger diameter of the standard S60 setups.

I don't see why you can't order directly from MAK in Italy. I did this with delivery to the UK.

Hallo Scissors,

I tried to contact them through their contact form and it goes to a dealer in Germany. I expected a reply from Italy, but unfortunately it was from Germany.

Could you please tell me where should I check the ET of 235 /45R19 wheels? I cannot find it it in the registration paper? I have to go to the dealer again in the next days to change if the summer wheel is also ET55. I asked the dealer few times if that ET is fine and he replied yes to my broken German.

Hi Mila,

The standard offset of the 235 40 19 wheels and 235 45 18 wheel is 55mm or ET55. This is with the standard 8" wide wheel. You probably won't find anything in the Volvo documentation but this information is stamped on the back of the wheels. Volvo themselves won't tell you what is a safe ET to go to, it's up to the aftermarket wheel suppliers to do this, which is what they've done in your case with the ET 42 alloys. In my opinion ET 42 will stick the wheels out a little too much and risk catching the front when under full steering lock. This is only my opinion though and could be wrong!

It's a shame you can't order directly from MAK in your country.

Hello Scissors, thanks a lot for your helpful input. As a foreigner in Germany, it is a bit difficult to understand. I have read few forums in German, but could not understand a lot about ET. I will have to definitely check this before I make a big mistake.

I also liked a lot MAK wheels, but could get it easily as I thought. I asked the dealer as well and he said it is a bit rare here, probably on my region.

Thanks a lot again.

Hi,
Finally I got back a reply from my volvo dealer about my current rim size.

They said I have a summer wheel of 8x19 ET42 and I need winter wheels of 8x18 ET42.

I ordered 8 x 18 ET40 winter wheels instead of 8x18 ET42. Hope this does not make a huge difference to the overall performance. When I checked one website, it shows +0.3% difference in speed.
